In the quest for online engagement, sometimes it’s hard to find the right content to engage your followers with. We’re going to look at Blue Carrot Catering, a corporate catering company based in Wellington and how they’ve taken to engaging their followers.

Using commenting through their social media channels, they’ve been able to open a dialogue with their customers and get them to be a part of minor company decisions. They deal with customers who regularly put events on, hosting lunches, breakfasts and afternoon teas.

Have a look at this example for an engaging piece of content:

Facebook followers were asked to comment on which charity Blue Carrot should give money to. Engagement was way up with people commenting their letter choice, tagging their friends and supporting the companies decision to make this a public exercise.

Further they incentivised it by providing one of their delicious cakes as a prize to one of the voters. This created an incentive to tag their friends, family and parters to get them to vote and hopefully bring the cake home.

People were sharing this with their friends and promoting it to groups to help it gain traction. They were actually supporting the companies decision to seek outside help for this decision.

You can imagine what users thought of Blue Carrot after this. They would have been seen as a social enterprise and a company with a local Wellington focus.

Their corporate clients liked it too, as Blue Carrot obviously operated very different from their corporate jobs.

They’ve followed this up with a post about giving away a bike to a local school. Which got great engagement online and was highly targeted at the local community.

Since these posts they’ve seen their online following – the number of likes, as well as their engagement in posts increase drastically. What this means is that when it comes to them posting another piece of content, it will pop up first in these users facebook feeds, allowing Blue Carrot Catering to be top of mind for these engaged users time and time again. When they think “I need catering” they will connect it up with the pages promotions and posts and think “Why not try Blue Carrot Catering”.

This is the power of an engaged user – and the importance of highly relevant and a well thought out digital strategy.
